Duty, Concerts and a Pleasant Surprise
We had a nice comment yesterday. Speaking to someone who had attended our concert in Eaton Bray on Saturday the 5th of June, he made the observation that after talking to lots of members of the congregation since the concert, several people commented that they had turned up out of ‘duty’ to the recital as [...]
Travellers Tales at St Mary’s
On Saturday evening (after performing at a wedding in Hertfordshire during the afternoon), we gave our first concert in the 13th century Church of St Mary the Virgin, in Eaton Bray - Bedfordshire. The church had previously hosted a jazz event and has a choral concert planned for later in the year, but it was [...]
Rehearsals for Concert at St. Christopher’s Hospice
At present, we are rehearsing for a concert on Thursday the 4th March at St. Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham. With a small concert hall seating 70 to 80 people, it will be an intimate recital, with the music available via intercom to anyone resident in the hospice to listen to if they would like to.
We [...]
Music for an Office Party
On Tuesday last week, we were invited back to a travel management company based near Liverpool Street in London to provide music for their annual Christmas party, held for staff and regular customers. This was the second time we’d played for this particular event and both times a string duo was perfect for the occasion, [...]
Candlelit Concert, St Giles, Cheddington
On Friday the 11th December we really got into the Christmas spirit with a programme of winter and festive music performed by candlelight in our village Church, St Giles, Cheddington. This is the fourth time we’ve performed in the church and word seems to have got around because by the week of the concert, the organisers [...]
Wedding at Waddesdon Manor
Last week we had another Friday wedding at a very local venue to us - Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire. At Waddesdon the weddings take place at ‘the Old Dairy’ which is a separate building to the Manor House itself. It cleverly utilises two buildings with a conservatory type area between the two which overlooks a lake [...]
The Rhythmic Flow of Music
The rhythmic pulse or beat is in many ways the foundation of all music. Listening to indigenous music forms as well as those dating back several centuries, we can hear that there are many expressive forms where the melody is not particularly well developed, but the sense of a vibrant pulse or beat is very much [...]
Christmas Party Ideas - String Quartet?
For some of us, it’s rather alarming to see tinsel and packs of Christmas cards appearing in the shops by late October, but for those planning Christmas parties or Corporate Hospitality over the festive season, this is about the time that attention starts to focus on booking entertainers and other suppliers.
For people looking to hire [...]
Wedding at Great Missenden Abbey
After quite a long drive down to Petersfield on Saturday, on Sunday it was nice to be playing at a somewhat more local venue to us - Great Missenden Abbey in Buckinghamshire. With a journey time of less than 20 minutes, it really is on our doorstep and a very beautiful venue.
In the wedding ceremony, [...]
Wedding at Dodmoor House
Last Thursday we returned once more to Dodmoor House - a wedding venue in Northamptonshire. We provided music for both the reception drinks and for the wedding breakfast until it was time for the speeches. Once again the couple had offered for a string duo, with the popular combination of violin with viola - these [...]
