Music on Mondays - St Michael at the North Gate

On Monday we were very happy to return once more to the lovely church of St Michael at the North Gate in Oxford to perform a short recital as part of the ‘Music on Mondays’ series which takes place every Monday lunchtime. Musicians perform without charge but are able to nominate a good cause or [...]

A Warm and Intimate Concert on a Freezing Night

On Friday, we were to perform the second Christmas concert at the Church of St Michael in the North Gate in central Oxford. Keeping the programme quite similar to the concert at St Giles the week before, we still scheduled in a day of rehearsal as Reiad (Viola) was due to play in place of Adrian who [...]

Beethoven Romance in F for Violin and Orchestra

On Sunday the 4th October I played Beethoven’s Romance no. 2 in F major (op. 50). Traditionally thought of as being written in 1802 or 1803 (when the composer was in his early thirties), there is evidence to suggest that it may have started life in an earlier form as part of Beethoven’s unfinished C [...]

Concert at St Pancras Church, 30th July

Today we had the pleasure of performing at the stunning church of St Pancras on the Euston Road in London. The church has a weekly series of lunchtime recitals with a regular audience and we were particularly pleased to see at least 50 people in the church.
Having performed two duos by Mozart and Rolla on Tuesday [...]

Lunchtime Recital at St Martin in the Fields

Yesterday we gave a lunchtime concert in the historic church of St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square. Originally we had been due to play on the 7th of February, but this was the day of the big snow across the South East of England and despite waiting for promised trains (which never turned up), [...]

Concert at St Michael at the North Gate - 20th July 09.

On Monday we returned to the church of St Michael at the North Gate in Oxford to give a lunchtime recital as part of their ‘Music on Mondays’ concert series.
The concerts are an opportunity for ensembles and musicians to perform works of their own choice, so we chose to give the first airing to the [...]

Classical Concert at the Swiss Gardens

Last night we were very privileged to return to give another open air concert in the Swiss Gardens in Bedfordshire. Although we play for quite a few weddings in the Swiss Gardens, we particularly look forward to giving these evening recitals as the audiences are always really lovely and it’s wonderful to be playing in such beautiful [...]

The Bells of St Giles

String players are accustomed to looking after extremely old, valuable instruments - and with some members of the Manor House String Quartet owning violins, violas or cellos that are centuries old, we’re all extremely conscious of how carefully they need to be treated if these instruments are to survive and play music for generations to come. Talking to [...]

Concert at St Giles Church, 15th May 2009

Despite forecasts of rain, the weather was absolutely beautiful on the Friday evening of our village church concert and brought the audience out en masse. I think that it’s not a bad way to end the working week - coming along to a country church and enjoying a glass of wine whilst hearing some classical music.
Everyone [...]

Concert at St Giles Church - Preparation!

Although the quartet are very accustomed to travelling long distances to play, this week, it’s particularly nice to be playing a concert about a five minute walk from my house. We’re going to be performing a concert tomorrow evening in St Giles Church in our home village of Cheddington - and have been working hard [...]
