Wedding String Duo at Heatherden Hall

On Saturday 14th March, our string duo returned to the historical Heatherden Hall in south Buckinghamshire to play for a wedding ceremony and drinks reception. Nestled in the middle of Pinewood Film Studios, the hall has been used as a location in its own right for many films – everything from ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and ‘From Russia With Love’ to a host of ‘Carry On’ films. It also acts as a perfect wedding venue and the room used for the ceremony works nicely for our string duo (you can view an article about getting your wedding musicians to fit your venue here). The two musicians are able to fit perfectly in to the area in front of the bay windows (at the left hand side of the wedding room) or equally well at the front; whereas a string quartet could potentially struggle to find enough room in both positions.

For this particular wedding we played a Pachelbel’s celebrated ‘Canon in D’ as the bride made her way up the aisle with her father and during the signing of the register we played pieces by Handel, Bach and Elgar. The married couple then exited to Handel’s ‘Arrival of the Queen of Sheba’. We then relocated to the bar area and entertained guests throughout the reception drinks with a varied selection of modern pieces – everything from string arrangements of pop songs by James Blunt and Adele to jazz and film music.
