Wedding at Blake Hall, Essex
Yesterday, Reiad (viola) and I performed as a string duo for a wedding held at Blake Hall in Essex. Despite the weather being very windy, the ceremony and drinks reception took place outside. This scenario poses potential problems for musicians in that the wind can blow music away (despite the sturdy metal pegs we use), but more importantly, gusts of wind can literally blow the instrument out of your hand. Fortunately the venue had a small barn used by the registrars during the ceremony and this had ample room for us to perform in. It had the added advantage of having an excellent amplification system with well situated speakers that enabled the sound to project so that all the guests could enjoy the music!
We continued playing throughout the entire drinks reception and finished when the married couple entered the wedding breakfast to enthusiastic applause.
