We Wish You a Merry Christmas

By vaughan • November 23, 2011 • Posted in: What we're playing

The ninth track on our second volume of Christmas carols (entitled ‘It Came Upon The Midnight Clear and other carols’) is the ubiquitous ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’. The carol is thought to have originated from the 16th century  in the west country of England where travelling ‘waits’ sang Christmas carols for food or other offerings.

I arranged the song with a catchy little introduction which heralds the main melody. This joyous tune is ripe for turning into variations with it’s strong harmonic base and we hope to have captured the spirit of  ths upbeat melody.
