String Players - Eliminating Anxiety and Tendonitis….a workshop

By vaughan • July 20, 2011 • Posted in: Violin Teaching

As a violinist, I’ve been very lucky to have had the opportunity to study and develop my musicianship with a wonderful teacher - Kato Havas OBE. Kato has developed a method of teaching and playing (called the New Approach) which enables string musicians to play without tension and to connect fully with the music. This way of playing helps with all aspects of music making, from the reduction of ‘performance anxiety’ to good projection, sensitive phrasing and interpretation of  music.

At the end of this month, my friend Monica Cuneo (a violist who has also studied with Kato Havas and helped by translating her books into her native Italian) will be presenting a workshop in Oxford covering some of the central points of the New Approach. Monica hopes to help string players avoid tension related problems such as tendonitis, muscle strain and the emotional anxiety which often goes hand in hand with these common conditions. By playing in a manner free from tension, players can expect more agility on the instrument, an improved tone and a more enriched experience from making music.

Monica can be contacted for further details via her website or on 07985 025129. She is also able to offer private violin and viola lessons in Oxford.
