Concert at West End House, Cheddington

Last Sunday, Adrian Smith (Viola) and I gave an intimate concert in the garden of a local private house - the event was held jointly in aid of the St Giles Church Bell Restoration Fund and Cancer Research UK. Although there are many ‘picnic concerts’ of classical music which involve a full sized orchestra, this was altogether more personal with approximately 100 people gathering with their picnics on the lawn and enjoying music for string duo.

The programme of music was light and popular in nature, featuring works by Mozart, Elgar, Delibes, Debussy and Haydn. As usual, we introduced the pieces and talked a little bit about each work.  We are delighted to hear that a grand total of £652 was raised towards the Bell Restoration Fund (which is an enormous help!).

We really enjoyed playing in the lovely gardens and it just goes to show that outdoor classical music events can be a huge success, even when they feature a very small ensemble. The audience gave us plenty or warm appreciation and seemed to really enjoy the day!
