Beethoven Violin Concerto in Oxford
On Saturday June the 25th, at 7.30pm, I shall be performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto in D with the St Giles Orchestra. The concert will take place in St Andrews Church, Summertown, Oxford. The orchestra will also be performing Tchaikovsky’s 4th symphony and a Gopak by Mussorgsky.
Tickets are £9 (full) or £7 (concessions) and can be obtained on the door. There is free entrance for accompanied children under 13.
It promises to be an evening full of wonderful music and the cadenzas (especially written for the Beethoven Concerto by the famous 19th century violinist / composer Ferdinand David) will be given a rare outing. I chose these cadenzas as I felt that the ones by Fritz Kreisler (despite being wonderfully written) have become almost standard to the detriment of many other fine cadenzas written for this work.
The conductor will be Geoffrey Bushell and the orchestra will be led by Ermily Ormerod.
