Wedding at the Swan in Streatley on Thames

Last Saturday the quartet went down to the beautiful village of Streatley on Thames where a couple were getting married at the well known hotel and wedding venue ‘The Swan’.

As it was a lovely, warm day we played under a gazebo on a lawn next to the Thames as guests assembled and made their way onto a permanently moored barge where the ceremony was to take place. As the quartet couldn’t fit inside the barge, I had previously suggested to the couple that maybe a string duo could provide music for the ceremony itself, being joined by the other two quartet members as soon as we had finished and were playing outside.

One of the beauties of having a large repertoire arranged specifically for the string duo means that in circumstances like this, the group has the flexibility to play all the most popular wedding music regardless of the circumstances and space restrictions. The bridal couple were originally thinking of having no music at all during the ceremony, so it was a nice touch to be able to play for them.

After the ceremony, we resumed our performance under the gazebo until the guests disappeared for the wedding breakfast. As there wasn’t sufficient space in the restaurant, we were positioned just outside so that the music could drift in through open doors.
