On Friday, we gave our summer string quartet concert in our local village Church (St Giles, Cheddington, Buckinghamshire). It was once again a real highlight of our musical year with such a warm and appreciative audience of around 70 people, many of whom are our friends and neighbours and some who come from further afield.

The theme of the evening was ‘A-Z’ with us presenting a programme of popular classical and light music starting with each letter of the alphabet in turn. We included well loved pieces such as ‘The Swan by Saint Saens’ beautifully played on the cello by Julia Graham, Greensleeves, a Divertimento by Mozart and as usual, we threw in a few fun pieces. For the letter ‘O’ when we played ‘O Sole Mio’, it was the audiences turn to sing along, although we did hear a few versions which included the word ‘Cornetto’ which was only to be expected!

Wine and nibbles were served during the interval and there was a raffle which meant the church raised a good profit on the evening which will be split between the cherish your church campaign and the appeal to restore the Church Bells at St Giles.

The lineup on the evening included Louise Bevan and myself (Vaughan Jones) on violins, Adrian Smith on viola and Julia Graham on cello.
