Recordings start next week……

After three months of fairly continuous arranging work, we’re virtually there with the carols for the second volume to be released in time for Christmas 2011. With the daffodils out and the beautiful spring sunshine, it seems strange to be recording pieces like ‘See Amidst the Winter’s Snow’, but with all the production, design, replication and distribution to get in place by December, we have to get everything finished by the summer.  Next Monday, we’re going into the studio for what Julia (our cellist) calls a ‘three session day’ - in other words, we’ll be recording from 10.00am in the morning, through until 9.00pm at night - arriving again at the studio for 10.00am the following morning, probably aided by lots of chocolate bars and strong tea.

As the last disc took three days to record, we’ve got a further date booked in at the studio on the 26th to finish off and we’ll need further days for all the careful post production - including mixing, mastering and generally working on the ’string quartet sound’ with the expert help of Ben Jones, the engineer at MBJ who we work with both as a quartet and in our recording work as Stringsection.

Like ‘I Saw Three Ships and other carols’, the second disc will also contain in excess of 65 minutes of music so there are 12 minutes of music still to arrange!
