Well despite the fact that Spring is well and truly in the air, we are hard at work preparing for a second volume of Christmas carols for string quartet. This second album will be a further volume as a follow up to ‘I Saw Three Ships and other carols’ which we released last year.

When the first disc was recorded and produced, we had not really considered the possibility of doing a second album but with so many beautiful carols which we didn’t have room for on the first disc and with ‘I Saw Three Ships’ proving so popular, it seems a logical and wonderful thing to do in 2011.

So out of all the new carols which we’ll be including (and which we’ll be recording in April), we need to pick one as the title track and that is proving harder than it might seem! On the one hand, the disc will include several lesser known but stunning carols such as ‘Sweet Was The Song’ (Lute Book Lullaby) and an arrangement of the well loved choral work by Berlioz ‘The Shepherds Farewell’…. but commercially, it makes more sense to name the album after a really familiar carol which people will instantly recognise. Add to that our attempts to keep continuity of the theme with three ships somewhere on the cover (perhaps!), it’s a bit of a design conundrum as we can’t really call it ‘Jingle Bells’!

We think we’ve narrowed it down to a couple of possibilities, but the final decision needs to be made by mid April when the designer will be getting to work on the CD booklet….watch this space!
