Corporate Dinner - University of Warwick
On Tuesday evening, the quartet were engaged to play for a conference dinner at Scarman House which is part of the University of Warwick. The first hour of the evening involved playing on a raised area whilst the delegates enjoyed pre-dinner conversation and drinks. The selection of music we played was varied with many different countries represented as the conference was truly international in nature.
We then set up in the middle of the dining hall and provided music during dinner. As the area of the room was large and there were in the region of 160 guests, projection for a purely acoustic group was always going to be a challenge. Nevertheless, the tables immediately surrounding us all responded enthusiastically and by the end of our session were applauding each piece and there were several requests for encores. Encouragingly, even the far tables could hear the music and in this situation, it is always better to be slightly less obtrusive than amplified and risk drowning out conversation.
