Manor House Music String Quartet Weblog

Haydn, Bevan, Puccini and Spohr

On Monday, we spent 5 hours rehearsing for our forthcoming concert at the Friends of Torbay Music Weekend. As we are playing at the close of the weekend, on the Sunday evening, we wanted the programme to be somewhat celebratory and have chosen two lively quartets - Haydn String Quartet in D major Op. 20 no. 4 (known as ‘The Sun Quartet’) and one of our regular favourites, the Spohr String Quartet in G Op. 82 no. 2. We will also be playing the five Scandanavian pieces by our violinist Louise Bevan. Louise composed and arranged these pieces based on some Scandanavian traditional tunes and they are utterly charming and beautifully written for the ensemble. The last piece on the programme is Puccini’s Crisantemi which we recorded for Rodrigo Dorfman’s film soundtrack last year and will make a nice contrast to the rest of the music that evening.

We look forward to Sunday and playing for the Friends of Torbay!
