Trafalgar Day - Music for a military dinner
Last night we returned once again to play for a military dinner at a barracks in Bedfordshire. This time, the dinner was to commemorate Trafalgar Day and we had a list of specially requested pieces that were to be performed at the event. As with all military functions, we were required to play the National Anthem and as there were American guests present, we also gave a rendition of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’. As there are certain traditional pieces that are played to commemorate Trafalgar day, these had been arranged beforehand for string duo and included ‘What Shall We Do with the Drunken Sailor’, ‘Heart of Oak’, ‘Spanish Ladies’, ‘Rule Britannia’ and ‘The Roast Beef of Old England’ as well as a few other nautical themed pieces.
As usual, the whole dinner was a celebratory and spirited occasion and we were made to feel very welcome, providing music throughout dinner and drinks.
