Wedding at Notley Abbey, near Aylesbury
Last week we returned to a regular venue that we always look forward to playing at – Notley Abbey, set in the countryside on the border with Oxfordshire. As we are a Buckinghamshire string quartet, this venue is only about a half hour drive away from us, it is both easy to access and a pleasure to play at.
There were in the region of 90 guests and for the pre-ceremony music, our quartet played popular pieces such as Delibes Flower Duet and Handel’s Hornpipe from the water music. The ceremony music was also filled with classical favourites with guests exiting to La Rejouissance (also by Handel).
During the drinks reception, we moved to the foyer area where everyone enjoyed a champagne reception to the sounds of a much more varied set of music, including jazz, light, modern and some pieces from films. As the weather was variable, the guests seemed to proceed to the wedding breakfast a little earlier than anticipated but many people obviously enjoyed the music and were generous in their compliments and appreciation.
