Wedding at the Church of the Holy Family, Luton

By vaughan • August 2, 2010 • Posted in: Weddings

On Friday we were asked to play as a string duo for a church wedding held in Luton. The name of the church was the ‘Church of the Holy Family’ and the ceremony included holy communion, hymns and music provided both before and after the service itself.

The most unusual aspect was us accompanying three hymns with only two instruments, so we really had to play out and make it as full as possible. We also provided introductions before the congregation started to sing. As the three hymns that we were asked to play weren’t already in our repertoire, we had arranged these especially for the day and are always happy to do this as hymns are usually very straightforward to prepare from a hymnbook, an organ or piano score.

We also played everybody out at the end to a traditional Irish Jig entitled ‘Haste to the Wedding’ as the groom and many family members were Irish, so this was very much appreciated!
