Last Saturday the wedding string quartet was engaged to play for a wedding reception held at Queens College in Oxford. /It was a particularly special day as the bridal couple had requested four arrangements to be prepared especially for the day and many hours of work had been involved to achieve this.

We began playing in the Librarians Courtyard under the shade of a tree as guests enjoyed reception drinks after the ceremony. The music was energetic and very mixed in style so there was something for everyone. The quartet then moved into the Great Hall for the wedding breakfast and despite there being over 100 guests, all chatting and enjoying themselves the music effortlessly projected throughout the whole room, being easily heard at the back. This was due to some clever acoustic panels being situated behind paintings and designed for the purpose of enhancing the volume of public speaking, without the need for electronic amplification. It was very gratifying as both the wedding planner and the events co-ordinator at the venue were particularly impressed with the standard of our playing and range of repertoire and said they would happily recommend us to other people holding events in the college – it would be lovely to return.
