Music for a surprise party…..
Last week, we were asked to perform music at a 50th birthday party, held in a back garden - and although the person with the birthday knew about the party, he wasn’t aware that his wife had booked our string duo to entertain all the guests. Keeping us a secret was quite hard work as our client had erected a special shaded gazebo area (to keep hot sun from damaging our instruments) and this had caused great puzzlement to her husband who kept quizzing her about what it was for!
When we arrived (suitably attired in black bow ties and dinner jackets), the secret was obviously out of the bag and we set up under the mystery gazebo and started playing a lively selection of music which the guests enjoyed immensely.
It was really lovely to be part of such an intimate gathering (there were only 25 guests so this was another example of a situation where a string quartet or trio would have been overwhelming) and we were made exceptionally welcome by our hosts - it almost felt like being party guests ourselves!
