Wedding at Newland Hall
This Saturday we returned once again to Newland Hall to provide a string duo for a wedding service and reception. We entertained guests for an hour before the ceremony with a selection of classical pieces such as Greensleeves, an arrangement for duo of La Donna E Mobile and some lovely chamber duets by Pleyel, Mozart and Handel.
The bride and groom had a special request - the light Italian song ‘Torna a Surriento’ which was apparently popularised by the three tenors. We had arranged this particularly for the ceremony so it was very significant for the bridal couple. The groom said afterwards that he was impressed with how well it worked for two instruments as it was originally quite a large scale orchestral piece.
The rain held off and we were able to re-join the wedding guests outside for the drinks reception and photographs which took place at the back of the marquee on the lawns. We played a really varied selection of music and once again it was a great example of how a string duo can be more effective than a string quartet for smaller gatherings - being so much more portable we were easily able to re-locate between the gardens and the rooms indoors by simply picking up our music stands and walking.
