Engagement Party Music
Although most people would think of hiring a string quartet for their wedding itself, on Sunday evening the quartet were asked to provide music for an engagement party in a London hotel. The couple who were getting engaged had invited about 200 guests and hired us to provide music throughout dinner with a bespoke playlist of music that they had chosen themselves, including all their favourites.
The room was set out for a large gathering with the quartet on a stage and a DJ set up ready to play a set after we had finished, so it was quite a big occasion. Rather like a wedding, our clients had chosen a favourite piece for their first dance and instead of having this played by the DJ, we were asked to perform an arrangement for string quartet as the newly engaged couple took to the floor - so it was a magical moment as everyone else fell silent. This completely personalised the evening and just as we finished playing the DJ took over, playing some lively hits as everyone else got up to dance whilst we discreetly made our exit.
It was a good example of using a string quartet for more than just background music - we felt very much part of the entertainment package and the transition between us finishing and the DJ starting his set meant that the music was fairly continuous and the evening ran smoothly.
