Summer weddings have arrived…..

With beautiful weather this weekend, the quartet had our first ‘outdoor’ engagement of 2009 at Layer Marney Tower in Essex. It’s always a pleasure to play at Layer Marney because the staff are so incredibly helpful and really look after the musicians so that we can get on with our job and play as much music as possible. The chairs are always set up ready, soft drinks are provided for us and the position of the quartet has always been well thought out, so we don’t have to waste time hunting for chairs, fetching drinks or moving ourselves between rooms to be heard.

As some of our group have extremely valuable antique instruments, we do need to keep them out of hot, direct sunlight - so as we were due to perform outside, we arrived early to set up a little gazebo.

Of course, when cold weather, rain or high winds do mean that the wedding celebrations have to take place indoors, we make sure we play plenty of upbeat, cheerful music to entertain the guests despite the bad weather, but  it was great to be playing out in the fresh air and hopefully the summer of 2009 has arrived!
